This One is Not a Movie Review

Hello everyone, I'd thought I would recommend a good author to you guys, Neil Gaiman. He is one of my favs and has been around for many, many years. He has been involved with several movies including ones based on his stories, such as Stardust, and Coraline, as well as writing the screenplay to Beowulf (the 2007 CGI movie).

Anyway, if you get chance, read some of his stuff even if you did see one of the above movies and were not impressed. I don't think his books translate well into movies (was not impressed by the movie Stardust - loved the book, though); however, I have not seen Coraline. I have heard it is pretty amazing, after all it is directed by Henry Selick (one of the geniuses behind The Nightmare Before Christmas).

He wrote one of my all time favorite books, Neverwhere. Neverwhere is set in London, England; I guess you could call it an urban fantasy. For more information about Neil Gaiman, check out his website: http://www.neilgaiman.com/ .

Vince Vaughan Returns

I don't why, but for some reason I like watching Vince Vaughan. It is not like he is a great actor or anything. He seems to be playing the same loutish characters in all the movies he makes. At least, that seems to be the trend with his most recent movies.

Anyway, this weekend his new movie, Couples Retreat, comes out and one of his co-stars is his old buddy from Swingers, Jon Favreau (who also co-wrote this movie along with Vaughan). The story concerns a group of friends who go on a (you can guess it). . . couples retreat. The friends go in order to help one of their friends (Jason Bateman) afford the trip by getting a group rate.

Well, I haven't seen this one yet, but I am definitely planning to see it, soon. Let me know what you guys think of it.

Oh the Horror! Another POV Horror film.

Okay, let me start off by saying right off from the start, I never did like the Blair Witch Project. I hated the jerky camera movements which inspired in me a feeling of sea sickness. I hated not seeing all the story, you know, when they weren't filming. I hated that movie! Well, I guess I should not have watched Quarantine which would not have existed without Blair Witch or Cloverfield, and all the other POV movies.
Quarantine starts off kind of slow. A television reporter and her cameraman are filming the nightshift at a Los Angeles Fire Station. The movie begins with the reporter, played by Jennifer Carpenter, following the firemen around the station during a quiet night. At one point, someone makes a comment about the possibility of seeing some action. This is a horror movie, so you can guess, they will see something - hopefully, sooner rather than later. Did I mention this movie starts off slow?
Finally, a call comes in. The firemen respond to some kind of medical emergency at an appartment complex. There is screaming coming from an upstairs appartment. A manager lets the fireman into the appartment, which leads to the mayhem being unleashed. People get bitten, the building is then quarantined from the outside world. Screaming, running - shaky camera work warning, people dying, the end.
Let me save you some money, if you have seen the trailer, you have seen the last scene of this movie. That's why I hate movie trailers, some of them give away the ending of the movies they advertise. Don't both renting or buying this movie; I did not enjoy it. However, if for some reason you want to buy it, here is the link to buy it from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Quarantine-Jennifer-Carpenter/dp/B001MVYUR0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1255312703&sr=8-1
